Powering Community Growth: a spotlight on Van Ward Allotments
Our commitment to sustainability goes hand in hand with our dedication to supporting local communities.
At Nuvolt, our commitment to sustainability goes hand in hand with our dedication to supporting local communities. That's why we're proud to highlight the incredible work of Tracey Davies, Chair of Van Ward Allotments, and our recent collaboration with this vital community resource.
A thriving community space
Tracey Davies and her team have transformed Van Ward Allotments into a thriving space where local residents can grow their own food, connect with nature and enjoy the benefits of a close-knit community. Under her leadership, the allotments have evolved into a pillar of sustainability, mental wellbeing and community spirit.
Nature prescribing: a path to mental wellbeing
In recent years, Van Ward Allotments have embraced the concept of nature prescribing, which has become an essential tool for those who find traditional counselling or medication ineffective. By encouraging individuals to spend time outdoors, engage with nature and switch off from the stresses of daily life, the allotments provide a unique form of therapy that benefits both mind and body.
The allotments offer a supportive environment where people can connect with others, find solace in nature and contribute to meaningful communal projects like growing produce for local soup kitchens and food banks.
Nuvolt's supporting role
Earlier this year, Van Ward Allotments faced a significant challenge when their newly installed off-grid system failed to operate correctly. Recognising the importance of this community resource, Nuvolt stepped in to help. Our team made a generous gesture to commission the system free of charge, ensuring it became fully operational.
This act of support not only resolved the technical issues but also reinforced the spirit of community that Van Ward Allotments represents.
Powering a "totally green" wellbeing room
Thanks to the successful commissioning of the off-grid system, the solar panels installed at the allotments are now powering their "totally green" wellbeing room. This eco-friendly space offers amenities such as phone charging points and cooking facilities. As winter approaches, the wellbeing room will also serve as a warm hub for the community to gather, socialise and find respite from the cold.
A shared commitment
The partnership between Nuvolt and Van Ward Allotments exemplifies the importance of collaboration in achieving shared goals. Our Co-Founder and Director, Gareth Moss, has been instrumental in leading these efforts — his commitment to community-driven sustainability projects is at the core of Nuvolt's mission.
At Nuvolt, we're proud to have played a part in ensuring that Van Ward Allotments remains a vibrant, sustainable space for all to enjoy.
